Google Classroom

Okay, let's start with the Google Classroom crackdown. It's not that I haven't played with it sporadically and dipped in my toes from time to it's just that I have sat more in the harpara camp who a few reasons.

I know that the two do work in unison but with leading Digital tech at my school I do need to be mindful that I dont through to much at teachers. I remember showing this tutorial LINK that showed how the two could be used together.

However, I am finding that more and more applications ( like the Sphero App and Classcraft) are linking with Google Classroom and the ease in which it links together with your Google domain is seamless as far as I can see. Also, there is now a nice feature to link Hapara with Google Classroom.

So this part of my blog is going to be this journey. Hope you get something from it.

MY SET UP

So the first thing I did as Google admin is that I made up a number of dummy accounts plus added teachers. I then made up a very easy assignment. I liked the way that the 'due date' ends up on my calendar for the task.

Easy to send out and over the days you see exactly who has or has not completed the task.

I am not sure of the Grade option and just having a number is a shame (letters like A,B,C would be good), however, after doing a quick google on how to do this I do see some advantages.

Grade an assignment
  1. Sign in to Classroom with your Google Account. ...
  2. Click the class and then click the assignment.
  3. Click the thumbnail to open and review any file the student attached.
  4. (Optional) The default point value is 100. ...
  5. Next to the student's name, click Add grade and enter the grade.

TOPICS AND LINKING SPHERO

Linking Sphero into google classrooms is easy to do hence the love of google classroom. https://edu.sphero.com/cwists/preview/6872

I decided that on my Google Classroom I would make a topic first - Sphero Coding. Its clear to see on the left side of Googe Class the option to do this.

When creating a task for students through the Sphero Website it will give the option to put the task of watching the video in this topic area.

INTEREST: When I created the task I had the option to add information but I didnt. I just said watch the below.

I should have ask them to write 5 important points from the video, or that they then go and do what the video instructed, take a photo of themselves and write a reflection. They could create a google slide that will act as a journal throughout the whole process.

Give them a task for some reflection rather than just say they have done it?
